OpenSanctions bulk data and API
⚠️ Non-commercial use only: personal data on politically exposed persons
OpenSanctions' Politically Exposed Persons collection page says the data covers named people and is free only for non-commercial users:
“This collection contains data about politically exposed persons (PEPs) from multiple sources.”
“OpenSanctions is free for non-commercial users.”
“The data is licensed under the terms of Creative Commons 4.0 Attribution NonCommercial”

OpenSanctions bulk data and API
OpenSanctions aggregates sanctions, regulatory, PEP and related public-interest entity data in FollowTheMoney JSON, nested JSON, CSV, text and Senzing exports, with names, identifiers, entity types, countries, topics and source links. Bulk files need no key; hosted matching, search and entity endpoints need an API key, and the data includes personal data on politically exposed persons and sanctioned individuals.
Coverage
The Default collection page reports 269 countries and about 3.9 million entities (2026-11-01), and the collection was added on 2021-09-01. Bulk files are replaced daily at stable locations, so counts and file sizes change; the simplified Default CSV was about 450 MB when checked. Coverage and record precision vary across the underlying sources.
Verdict
This is a counterparty and entity-risk signal for sanctions, PEP, regulatory and related public-interest screening. Agents can join names, identifiers, countries, topics and source links to company or transaction records, but name matching is not a final identity determination. Source detail varies, entities can be merged or deleted, and daily bulk releases can change prior records. Use is non-commercial unless licensed, and the records include personal data that needs proportionate handling.
