World Bank Remittance Flows Datasets

World Bank annual inward and outward remittance-flow tables by economy in Excel workbooks. The files contain economy names, years and current nominal US-dollar amounts in millions, and download without a key.

Required Attribution:

The workbook states: "When using the data, please cite: World Bank Migration and Development Brief 2025".

Coverage

The two workbooks cover 2000-2024 and were last updated on 16 July 2025. The checked inward file contains 201 named economies or aggregates and 5,018 non-empty economy-year observations.

Verdict

A country-level cross-border household-transfer signal that can inform external-funding, consumption and balance-of-payments analysis. It is annual and therefore slow-moving, with the latest checked release ending in 2024. Values may include estimates, gaps and later revisions, and the workbook notes that some economies have breaks around the BPM5-to-BPM6 transition. ODbL attribution and share-alike requirements apply to redistributed database derivatives.

Limits

  • Rate limit: Not stated.
  • The files are annual and end in 2024.
  • The checked inward workbook is about 76 KB and has one 222-row by 26-column sheet before tidying.

Quirks

  • The workbook is wide; reshape the year columns before time-series use.
  • Zero and missing are distinct. Preserve both rather than converting blank cells to zero.
  • The workbook includes totals and note rows; the example drops rows without numeric values but retains published aggregates such as Total.

Terms and attribution

  • ODbL permits copying, modification, distribution and commercial use with attribution and share-alike obligations.
  • Use the workbook's requested citation to the World Bank Migration and Development Brief 2025.
