UNCTADstat Maritime Indicators
UNCTADstat Maritime Indicators
UN Trade and Development provides keyless bulk tables for merchant fleets, seaborne trade, port calls, container throughput and liner-shipping connectivity. Bulk downloads are compressed CSV files with economy, period, value, unit and indicator fields, while the generated request API uses credentials.

Coverage
Coverage varies by table: merchant-fleet series run from 1980 through 2026, monthly liner connectivity from February 2006 through September 2026, and container-port throughput from 2010 through 2024. Release frequency ranges from monthly to annual and recent periods differ by indicator.
Verdict
These indicators provide macro shipping-capacity, connectivity, port-activity and trade-flow signals across economies and time. They are suitable for cross-country panels and trend features rather than live vessel monitoring. Publication lags, revisions, changing units and table-specific coverage require metadata-aware joins. The checked bulk route is keyless; generated API examples use client credentials.

Limits
- Rate limit: Not stated.
- Coverage and release frequency vary by table.
- The checked monthly connectivity archive was listed as 215,059 bytes in bulk-file metadata.
Quirks
- The bulk response is a 7z archive despite the extensionless URL; extraction needs a 7z-capable library.
- Month uses values such as 2006M02 rather than an ISO date; parse the year and month explicitly.
- Keep units, footnotes and missing-value fields because definitions and availability differ across economies and periods.
