Statistics Canada railway carloadings
Statistics Canada railway carloadings
Statistics Canada table 23-10-0216-01 provides monthly Canadian railway loadings as a compressed CSV table and through the Web Data Service. Rows carry reference month, geography, traffic or commodity component, estimate type, unit, vector, value and status fields; no account or key is needed.
Required Attribution:
Statistics Canada. Table 23-10-0216-01 Railway carloadings statistics, by total tonnage transported, monthly.
Coverage
The monthly series runs from January 1999 through August 2026 for Canada, the Eastern division and the Western division. The checked full-table file contained 146,412 rows and was released on October 26, 2026; Statistics Canada publishes table corrections when prior observations change.
Verdict
This is a Canadian rail-freight flow signal for total traffic, non-intermodal commodities, intermodal units and traffic received from U.S. connections. The geographic split can show whether volume changes are concentrated in eastern or western corridors. The latest reference month lagged verification by about two months, so it is not a live congestion feed. Published corrections show that stored observations should be refreshed rather than treated as immutable.
